Wildfire

Wildfire refers to any fire occurring on wildland except a fire under prescription (FAO, 1986; ITTO, 1997)

Climate

Climate refers to the weather situation over a long period of time, usually 30 years or more. (Stoutjesdijk, Ph. and J. J. Barkman, 1992)

Society

Society is defined by Webster’s as the totality of social relationships among human beings.

Fire History

Fire history provides information on the role, frequency and extent of wild land fire over time.

Geography

Geography is the study of relations between the society and the natural environment. (Peet, 1998)

Ecology

Ecology is the study of the interactions between organisms and their environment (Haeckel 1866)

Tools

The major tools provided by WALTER are on-line applications that involve the use of information derived from documentary, tabular, and spatial data for the purpose of improving decision-making by stakeholders.
