WALTER Society Component
Human
activities can have a strong influence on the location and
intensity of wildfires. Likewise, the location and configuration
of high-hazard fire areas have critical implications for
society and for ecosystems. Both are tied closely to human
values, behaviors, and institutions.
Data sets and GIS layers providing information about population
density, land use patterns, the location of trails and roads,
perceived values, and species habitat richness are being
used to incorporate these factors into the FCS-1 Model.
