Fire Prevention

Wildfire prevention is about keeping fires from starting and spreading. It is an integral part of fire suppression, with elements ranging from public education to hazard reduction.

Wildfire prevention efforts include firewise construction (to reduce the risk that a home will catch fire), as well as community, landscape, and policy activities that will reduce the overall risk of wildfire occurrence and spread (fuel reduction, firewise landscaping, fire codes, etc.) and will increase the ability for firefighters to suppress a wildfire (fuel breaks, road access, etc.).

  • Fuels Reduction - One of the ways to reduce fire risk is to reduce the amount of fuel available to burn
