Dynamic Fire History Map: Huachuca Mountains, AZ

What it is:

This tool is used to display map layers for the Huachuca Mountains, AZ. It displays the following layers:

  • WALTER study area boundary
  • Roads
  • U.S. Forest Service wildfire history layers ("Fires by Decade") from 1906 to 2000. Fires with unknown boundaries are displayed as a circle with an area corresponding to that of the fire.
  • Land ownership
  • Aerial images at 1-meter resolution ("DOQQ" - visible when zoomed in)
  • Shaded relief based on 30-meter Digital Elevation Models (DEM)

Potential Uses:

This tool enables the remote viewing of Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing data. It supports basic querying of the vector layer attributes and the printing of simple map compositions.

Suggested Demo:

Zoom to area of interest.

Use the Layers list on the right side of the screen to make the fire history visible (checkbox) and active (radio button).

Use the identify tool to see the Forest Service data associated with a fire polygon

Use the legend toggle button to display the visible layer's legend

Use the print button to print the map
