Fire-Climate-Society Model, v.1 (FCS-1)
Go to the tool!
|
What it is:
|
Fire-Climate-Society (FCS-1) is an online, spatially explicit strategic wildfire
planning model with an embedded multi-criteria decision process that facilitates
the construction of user-designed risk assessment maps under alternative climate scenarios
and varying perspectives of fire probability and values at risk. more...
|
Potential Uses:
|
Ultimately the strategic model will address two needs: strategic planning using
scenarios based on historic data to look at the past in order to plan for the future,
and strategic management using current climate analogs to generate longer-term "what
if" scenarios. The emphasis of the model will be on identifying areas with
the highest probability of wildfire, and will be designed to enhance rather than
replace local expertise.

|
Strategic vs. Tactical
Traditionally, fire models have concentrated on tactical approaches, utilizing weather information to help fight fires. Climate forecasts, with their longer view, lend themselves to the strategic nature of FCS-1. |
